Barcelona have confirmed that midfielder Marc Bernal will be out for a year after undergoing surgery on a knee injury.
Bernal had enjoying a superb start to the season in the first team but suffered the problem against Real Vallecano and is now set for a lengthy lay-off.
Here’s Barcelona’s official statement:
“The player Marc Bernal has undergone a successful surgical procedure on the injury to the anterior cruciate ligament and lateral meniscus in his left knee carried out by Dr. Joan Carles Monllau under the supervision of the Club’s Medical Services at Barcelona Hospital. Recovery time is expected to be 12 months.”
It’s obviously a massive blow for Bernal but the youngster is expected to be handed a new contract shortly, with the club eager to secure his long-term future.
