Hansi Flick has been talking about Ansu Fati after being officially presented as Barcelona’s new manager on Thursday.
Fati has been ruled out of action yet again after picking up a foot injury during pre-season training under the German.
Flick says Fati had been impressive in training and he’s disappointed he won’t be able to feature on the club’s tour of the United States.
“In the first days, he was unbelievable. His fitness was on top, you could see it all on the pitch,” he told reporters.
“It’s not good not to have him here and not have him on tour, but we have to accept it and we have to help him come back stronger. Injuries don’t always come at the best time, we have to accept that.
“He played as number 11, on the left, in training we have seen him in this position but there is the option of him playing as a 9. He has done very well, we have worked with him and he has done a very good job. Now he is injured and we have to wait. Let’s hope he comes back and does better.”
Fati’s future at Barcelona still seems pretty uncertain, particularly if Nico Williams and Dani Olmo arrive. However, he does appear to have made a good first impression on Flick and will hope to return as soon as possible.
