Malaga sporting director, Loren Juarros has revealed that Barcelona have been in touch with a view to signing 17-year-old striker Antonito Cordero.

The Catalans were keen to bring in Cordero at the end of the transfer window in a bid to boost Barcelona Atletic’s attack.

Juarros says Barca have been in touch but he’s hoping to keep hold of the highly-rated young star.

“On August 29, I received a call from the director of youth football at FC Barcelona ( José Ramón Alexanko), but we will make an effort to ensure that Antoñito stays here, within the limits of normality and requirements,” he told a press conference.

“I spoke with the player’s father and told him that we can reach an agreement and that an agreement must be reached.”

Cordero caught the eye after a breakout campaign last season but looks set to stay with Malaga for now. It remains to be seen if Barca will reignite their interest in the future but Cordero may be one to keep an eye on.
