Barcelona spent the summer trying to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club but ultimately saw the forward remain in Bilbao and announce he always wanted to stay at the club.
The summer transfer window has now closed but the rumor mill is already convinced Barcelona will try for Nico again in 2025.
Diario Sport report that “nothing has changed” with regards Barcelona’s interest and they remain keen to land the Spain star.
In fact there’s even a somewhat spurious claim that a move had always been planned for next summer but was brought forward after Nico’s stellar Euro 2024 and Real Madrid’s acqusition of Kylian Mbappe.
Sport say that Laporta and Deco decided “waiting no longer made sense” and “were willing to go into even more debt” to bring in Nico and Dani Olmo. However, the Athletic star “buckled under the pressure” and decided to stay on.
We’ll have to wait and see if Barca do reignite their interest in Williams again next year. Laporta has already claimed Barca will be able to sign normally from January, with the president confident the club can return to the 1:1 rule soon.
