Barcelona finished off a perfect first month in the new La Liga season with their best win yet under new manager Hansi Flick: a 7-0 destruction of newly-promoted Valladolid that delighted the crowd at the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium and keeps Barça at the top of the table going into the first international break of the campaign.

Flick spoke to the press after the game about his team’s performances, and he had nothing but praise for the player’s attitude, their quality, and their hunger to continue attacking and scoring goals. The coach was given a standing ovation by the stadium at the end, but credited the players for allowing him to get praise from the fans.

“When you see how the fans support us, you get a special feeling. We had a special feeling on the pitch. Every time we attacked, we wanted to score another goal. This is good and it makes the fans proud. That’s why we’re here, to give the best individual and collective performances.

“I’m proud. It’s a good situation for me because the fans are happy, but we still have a big job until the end of the season. These days of rest will be good for the staff. I hope our internationals win their matches to gain more confidence, but as soon as they return I want them thinking about Barça.

“We are very happy with what happened on the pitch, I enjoy this good connection with the supporters. Everyone is 100% with Barça and if we do it on the pitch, it translates to the stands. Our players have played very well and beyond that worked very hard. I like that connection.”

After such an incredible start there will be a natural excitement and expectation about Barça in the coming weeks and months, and it’ll be fascinating to see how Flick and his troops deal with the pressure.

But the early signs are very, very good.
