Barcelona midfielder Pedri has revealed how new manager Hansi Flick made it clear to his side how vital it was to start the season well.
The Catalan giants have done exactly that by winning their first give games in a row, including a 4-1 win over Girona on Sunday.
Pedri scored in the victory and spoke to the media after the game about his new boss.
“We knew we had to start well, we didn’t do that in other years, that’s what the manager told us, to start strong,” he told the media.
“He tells us how important it is to win the first league games, that’s how you win league titles, when you get a good points lead at the start of the season.
“We are very happy with the result because it was a difficult match. Girona play good football with the ball, but we started well and with intensity. Lamine ’s first goal came from the pressure we put on, which is what the coach asks of us.”
Barca’s great start means the Catalans have a four-point lead at the top of the table over Real Madrid. It’s only early days of course, but it’s always great to see Barca on top of their fiercest rivals.
